Service Description
Day: Every Monday from 1/12-2/23 Time: 11:00-2:20am Age Range: 13+ Description: There is a wealth of storytelling hidden inside photo and video archives. In this hands-on filmmaking course, students become “archive detectives,” learning how to uncover, interpret, and reshape real historical materials into compelling nonfiction stories. Students of all ages will explore the fundamentals of documentary and nonfiction filmmaking by working with existing photos and video footage. Through guided research, discussion, and editing exercises, students will learn how to engage with original context and history while creatively repurposing archival material to tell new, meaningful stories. The class builds skills in research, visual storytelling, critical thinking, and collaboration, while also introducing accessible tools and resources students can add to their creative toolbox. No prior filmmaking experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to explore the past to create something new. Teacher: Yasmin Nearor
