About the event
Your favorite shows. Your favorite characters. Your turn to play the part!
As Seen on TV is a weeklong fall camp at The Performing Arts Community Center that brings the world of television onto the stage and in front of the camera. Designed for ages 7–17, this camp invites young performers to explore what makes memorable television scenes work, then step into those scenes themselves. Whether your camper loves big characters, funny dialogue, dramatic moments, or working behind the scenes, there will be opportunities to contribute, experiment, and create alongside other young performers.
Campers are encouraged to arrive with ideas for their favorite television shows, characters, and scenes. Together, we’ll use those interests to help shape the week’s activities, selecting age-appropriate material that works for our group. Not every suggested scene or character can be included, but campers’ ideas will be an important part of building our own television-inspired showcase.
Throughout the week, campers will explore character development, expression, movement, and vocal delivery. They’ll practice making clear acting choices, understanding what their characters want, and bringing personality to a performance. Theatre games and creative exercises will keep the afternoons active while helping campers build confidence and get comfortable working together.
We’ll also focus on ensemble scene work using television scenes with multiple characters. Campers will learn how to listen and respond to their scene partners, share the focus, follow blocking, and develop the timing that makes a scene feel natural. From a well-timed joke to a meaningful reaction, they’ll discover how each performer contributes to the whole scene.
In addition to performing live, campers will collaborate on a shot-for-shot recreation of a selected television scene. We’ll examine the original scene’s camera angles, framing, movement, and timing, then work together to recreate those details. This project will introduce the differences between acting for a live audience and acting for a camera, along with the teamwork and patience involved in filming multiple takes.
Each afternoon will include a mix of acting activities, rehearsal, filming, and breaks, with snacks provided. No previous acting or filmmaking experience is required. Activities and roles will be adapted to campers’ ages and experience levels, with an emphasis on participation, creativity, and supporting one another.
The week concludes with a showcase on The PACC’s main stage at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 16. Family and friends are invited to see campers bring their television-inspired scenes and characters to life and celebrate what they’ve learned throughout the week.
