About the event
Where My Heart Wants to Be is a vibrant, heartfelt celebration of Waco, Texas, in honor of the city’s 175th anniversary. Held on May 1st, 2025, at 6:30 PM, this free event invites the community to gather for an evening filled with art, music, and local history.
Guests will explore a stunning gallery of Waco-themed artwork by renowned artist Roy De Romero, (of whom also wrote the song "Where My Heart Wants To Be") whose pieces beautifully capture the soul and spirit of the city. Adding to the atmosphere, the Youth Chorus of Central Texas, under the direction of Florence Scattergood, will be present to honor the legacy of Waco through song.
Historical insights and storytelling will be provided by the Jacob De Cordova Society, and the evening will include a special appearance by a Sam Houston reenactor, bringing to life one of Texas’s most legendary figures. Creative Waco will also be on hand, helping to connect the dots between Waco’s past and its vibrant, artistic present.
Light appetizers and drinks will be available as attendees enjoy the evening’s gallery, performances, and presentations. Whether you're a lifelong resident or a new admirer of the city, this event is a powerful reminder of where our hearts want to be—right here in Waco.
